In English we introduced our new English text through a hook day where we made Robots and then in Year 1 we named our Robots and in Year 2 we wrote a description about our Robot. We got very creative and had some wonderful ideas! Our new text is No-Bot.

 Citizenship enrichment.

This half term our enrichment focu has been citizenship. We have learnt lots about people who help us out and about in our community. We have leanrt what they do, how they help and what skills they hold to make the effective at their job role.

We learnt about dentists and then used play dough to make our own teeth and toothbrushes! We also learnt about paramedics, police, shop assistants, firefighters and mechanics.

Design Technology

In DT we were designing a car using the wheel and axel mechanism. We evaluated existing products, designed our own cars and then made them. Once we had completed our cars we evaluated them and made changes where neccessary to ensure we had a orking product.

Autumn 2 in Pearl class

This half term was filled with many more exciting learning opportunities and experiences. We had our Art enrichmet week focused around drawing skills and portraits. The children created some amazing pieces!

We also had our allotment visit, Christingle service at church, Peace concert and Nativity.

Spring 2

Our learning this half term has been about the History of Saltaire and our key person was Sir Titus Salt.

The children were fascinated by our English text 'Titus Salt and How He Built Saltaire'. We were very lucky to be able to get in touch with Emily Parkin who is the author and illustrator of the book and we sent her all of our questions. She made a video for us answering the questions and we were very excited she had taken the time to do this.

Art

In Art we learnt the skills needed to effectively create our clay tiles to represent our interpretation of buildings that would fit into the architecture of Saltaire.

We looked closely at the detail we could see on the buildings in Saltaire and then we explored our surrounsings and collected items we could draw around or could use the pattern on to print into our clay. We drew sme examples of what these would look like and then designed our final tile. We used all the skills we had learnt and were really proud of our creations!

Maths

We got resourceful! We made our own clocks as visual aids to help us make, tell and identify time. We used them effectively and they reall helped us to practice the skills of telling time on clocks.

 RSE

In RSE we explored what team work, listening and working together really looks like. We were set a challange and given the only resources we could use; a paper cup, a rubber band and 4 pipe cleaners. We watched a short video of our challenge and then we needed to work with our partner to recreate what we had seen and successfully work together to pick up the cup and move it! It was trickier than we first thought but we worked really hard to use our reciprocity and we all managed to be successful!

Summer 1

VE day - we took our learning outside and held a KS1 street party to celebrate the peace in Europe.

DT

Our DT learning this half term has linked to our English text - Jim and the Beanstalk. Our Let's say was ...

Let's say now you have got new teeth for your Giant, he needs to know what a healthy snack is to help him take care of himself.

We decided that a fruit kebab would be exactly what he needed! We wnjoyed tasting the fruits to decide what we wanted to use and then we desgned, made and ate it to be able to evaluate it!
