David Hockney inspired landscapes

We have had a very busy first week back! We spent some time this week doing some art enrichment. We completed a series of mindful activities linked to David Hockney. We then sketched what we could see from outside our classroom and then used these sketches to re-create some art work using oil pastels in the style of David Hockney. The children had a great time doing this and really tried their best.

This week we also had our hook lesson for our topic 'Can you survive without chocolate?' The children taste tested four mystery chocolates. They talked about which ones they liked/disliked and why. They tried to guess what each chocolate was. Not many of the chidlren in Diamond class were fans of dark chocolate!

In maths we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. It would be fantastic to keep practicing this at home as it will really help us with the rest of our multiplication and division topic!

This week in computing, Diamond class were learning about robots. We found out that a robot is a machine that does tasks without the help of a person. These days, there are all sorts of robots for all sorts of tasks, such as; vacuuming the floor and mowing the grass! We learnt that robots can not think for themselves and need humans to instruct them on what to do. These instructions are called commands. We practiced giving our Beebot robots some commands! We finished by having a think about what robot we would like to invent. Lots of children said they would invent a robot that could tidy up their bedroom!

In our maths lesson today we had a problem to solve. 'Mrs Mahmood has 12 counters... How many ways can she put them into equal groups?'. Children worked in pairs to find all the different ways that they could group the counters. We were able to find 6 different ways of putting the counters in groups. Year 1 children wrote repeated addition number sentences to match the groups and Year 2 children wrote multiplication number sentences. Great problem solving Diamond Class!

Jigsaws - Diamond Class

Jigsaw enrichment

This week we have been carrying out some DT enichment. We began by discussing things we like to play with at home and why. We then evaulated some jigsaws by playing with them and thinking about what we liked them and why. We then designed and made our own jigsaws.
