Our Spring Journey
Spring one
Art enrichment.
This half term we have started with our Art enrichment. This is an opportunity for mindfulness, exploration and a deeper understanding of a particular area of Art. For this enrichment our focus is David Hockney and we are working through a sequence of lessons to build the skills required to create our own David Hockney inspired landscape canvas of our school grounds.
Maths
We made equal groups by following worded challenges and then using our counters to make those groups. This has helped us with our repeated addition and will help us with our arrays and multiplication.
English
Our book is The Ferocious Chocolate Wolf. We have been enjoying this story and are really good and re-telling this to our partners.
Design technology.
In DT we are learning about cooking and nutrition. We have learnt about hygiene and safety when handling food and learnt to use the bridge and claw technique for cutting. We used what we have learnt to help us to prepare fruit to make fruit faces, this was our mini hook before we make our chocolate covered fruit kebabs!
Turn the pages.
We invited parents and carers to come and share some stories for our turn the pages session. Children were given the opportunity to share their favourite books from home, school and our English text. They were also able to use pictures or characters, items and settings and make up their own stories. It's always lovely when our grown ups come and share with us in school.
Spring 2

English
For our hook lesson we had a very exciting afternoon at the beach! Before heading to the beach we made our very own pinwheels.
We had a rock pool to explore, a paddling pool as our sea with sea creatures and a lovely sand pit to build our sandcastles. We also watched a punch and Judy show and we enjoyed some ice lollies to finish off our experience!
DT
In design technology we are exploring and making puppets this half term! Our first hook lesson we watched a puppet show and talked about the story that was being told through puppets. It was great fun. We then made our own paper finger puppets and used them to tell our partners a story. We were all very proud of what we made!
World book day!
For world book day we all came dressed in our character costumes and everyone looked amazing!
We had a wonderful day of creating puppets, making storyboards and also reading all of our lovely books. we did shared reading with Year 4 and it was fabulous to share our favourite stories.
Creating puppets in DT
These were our wonderful moving puppets that we made. We designed them before creating our characters and fixing them together with split pins.
This was the puppet we made before we had the opportunity to design and make a sock puppet. It was lots of fun!
Maths
In maths we have been doing some hands on learning with our fractions. We have been finding a half and a quarter of a number using a bar model and counters. We were very busy and thinking hard.
